Abstract
The Buried Giant, Kazuo Ishiguro’s seventh novel (winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2017), is told in four parts and focuses on an elderly couple, Axl and Beatrice and their journey to find their son. Along the way, they overcame the emptiness of memory, aging, love, loss and death. Their fantastic adventure in the novel indicates a mythological archetype called Monomyth. It’s the original legend – the common form of composition related topics adventure hero, he win and return to the transformation and the new chance. The monomyth has occasionally been used more generally as a supposed mytheme that re-occurs throughout the world cultures. The Buried Giant’s plot is a typical illustration of the endless rebirth of this archetype in modern literary life.
