Abstract
Toni Morrison, an African-American female Nobel Laureate, is one of the most well-known authors of the twentieth century whose novels have captivated the hearts of readers as well as literary scholars. Her works centre around the world of the coloured people, especially women with their own identities and specific characteristics. Among them there are some remarkable motifs of characters such as ghosts, reborn girls (supernatural characters), women with magic power (magic characters)... This paper focuses on the magic characters who can predict the future, have healing abilities as well as practise rituals to purify and revive people. With their opague origins and mysterious appearnce, they are capable of guiding and assisting the main characters in the adventures to discover their own identities; at the same time, they are the ones who keep the secrets of the community legacy and practise the spiritual rites to open the door to the magic world.
