Abstract
Up to now, the concept of the magic still has not been clearly shaped in literary studies in Vietnam. Therefore, this paper is aimed at penetrating the concept of the magic and affirming that the magic is both a way of thinking in aesthetics and a composition method in literature. The magic is first and foremost expressed in a plot brimming with mythological character and built upon the foundation of social reality which is highly political. Linking between the plot and the magical motifs is a system of characters blending a historical borderline with a breakaway from reality in the writing style for creating a character. One remarkable experience of writers whose composition is in line with magical writing is narrative discourse in which mundane is interwoven with magic reality. As a result, this serves as a base for a more specific and adequate concept of the magic with a view to affirming the existence and the development trend of magical literature in modern time.
