JAPANESE EMIGRANT LITERATURE IN THE CONTEXT OF GLOBALIZATION

Abstract

The concept of “Japanese literature” has mostly referred to the literary works written by Japanese authors and published in Japan for Japanese readers. Recently, however,  together with social development and globalization, the literary horizon of Japanese literature has been expanded. The Emigrant Literature of Japan has gradually played an important role in the literature of the Land of the Rising Sun. Like some countries in Eastern Asia, oversea Japanese literature represents Eastern – Western integration and the exiled souls longing for traditional values of the nation. These works reveal different voices from Japanese contemporary literature and lead to a new prospect for postmodern literature in its non – stop changing process.
