Abstract
Chu Lai is a writer who was able to firmly establish his status in the Vietnamese literary circle after 1975. His writings were characterized by the originality of a single topic which was soldiers’ destinies, specifically the ones returning from war, and a single character type which reflected the image of soldiers on a second front. Based on a demonstrattion of the destinies of the characters in Chu Lai’s novels ranging from the lucky fates that outnumbered the tragic ones, this paper is to build up types of characters along with the identification of style features (besides the literature style, there also exist other styles in drama and cinema) and Chu Lai's distinctive language, thereby pointing out his contribution to the contemporary Vietnamese literature.
