Abstract
The glasses with the composition of TeO2-B2O3-ZnO-Na2O-Eu2O3 has been synthesized by melt quenching method, their luminescence properties were investigated by excitaion and emission spectra. The local structure of the Eu3+ ions in the prepared glasses can be explored using phonon side band (PSB) spectra of the Eu3+ ions at the high energy side of the 7F0- 5D0 transition. Phonon side band associated with the 7F0-5D0 transition deals with the local structure coordinating Eu3+ ions and the nature of the vibrations around the Eu3+ ion sites. The PSB has been studied to understand the vibration behavior of the lattice in the immediate vicinity of the rare earth ions. In the excitation spectrum, PSB associated with the pure electronic transition 7F0 – 5D0 at 465 nm is clearly observed. The composition dependence of the electron- phonon coupling strength has been used to explain the variation of the spectroscopic properties of the sample system.
