Abstract
Testing and assessment based on the orientation of learner capacity development have been examined in terms of theoretical preliminaries and implemented in the teaching and learning pocess of every subject throughout all educational levels ranging from the primary ones to the tertiary one. According to the project aimed at creating radical and comprehensive innovation in the Vietnamese education, our country’s education has been synchronously transformed from skill and knowledge assessment into the assessment of learners’ capacities. From the primary levels, students are trained to form and develop their general capacities and specialized capacities throughout the whole process. This requires the establishment of a set of criteria which serves as a base for assessing the capacities that need to be formed in students. Self-directed learning is one of the general capacities that needs to be formed in the process of learning all subjects including physics. As an experimental science subject, physics can help to build up students’ self-directed learning capacities. This paper is to propose criteria for assessing students’ self-directed learning capacities in the process of teaching and learning physics.
