SAUSSURE AND LITERATURE: THE CASE OF COURSE IN GENERAL LINGUISTICS AND THE DOUBLE ESSENCE OF LANGUAGE

Abstract
From the location of different spheres to clarify Saussure’s thoughts concerning literature such as the position of literature in Saussure’s texts, Saussure’s linguistically theoretical foundations for literary theory, this article focuses on analyzing the contents related to literature in Course in General Linguistics and The Double Essence of Language. On this basis, we point out some issues for researching literature from Saussure’s thoughts. The analysis enables us to affirm the importance of linguistics in doing literary research and the role of literary texts in linguistic study.
