Abstract
This research presents results from a test for acute toxicity of the Kali dicromat solution on Azolla (Azolla caroliniana Willd) based on the OECD 221 guideline (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development). The findings identified a chemical, its concentration and optimal sterilization time for cultivating azolla, which are NaOCl 0,05% and 20 seconds respectively. EC50 = 8,92 mg/L was determined according to fresh weight variables and 14,1 mg/L according to dry weight variables. And the correlation analysis showed that there was reverse correlation among the concentration of K2Cr2O7, fresh weight variables and dry weight variables with a very high correlation coefficient (r > 0,97). This proves that Azolla caroliniana is sensitive to pollutants, which provides a platform for using azolla species to monitor ecotoxicity for water quality in Vietnam.
