SOME MEASURES OF THE NGUYEN DYNASTY IN TRAINING AND SELECTING KHAM THIEN GIAM’S OFFICIALS

Kham Thien Giam (imperial office in charge of astronomy), which was the name of the agency that undertook astronomical observations, calendar-making …, was formally recorded in national history works under the Nguyen dynasty's reign, but its precursor had appeared in previous periods. With such a relatively age-old history, this agency has become one of the topics that attracts attention of many researchers. However, because of some subjective and objective reasons, until now, an overview and systematic study of Kham Thien Giam's history still remains an expectation of scholars at home and and abroad. Therefore, in this article, we have chosen to research into the issue of training and selecting Kham Thien Giam’s officials as a start that paves the way for a series of in-depth studies on this institution in the forthcoming future.
