INTEGRATION OF LINGUISTICS AND CULTUROLOGY IN ANALYZING ARTISTIC TEXTS

Abstract

In modern linguistic theories, an artistic text is a piece of discourse characterized by elements namely signs and sign encoding, communicative contexts and registers, which are constrained by linguistic rules and cultural categories. From that pattern of creating and receiving literature, this article presents possibilities of integrating linguistic knowledge into the analysis of literary works: (1) Seeking information focuses, rhetorical tokens, dictionary meanings and text meanings of linguistic elements; (2) analyzing propositional meanings and modal senses, explicit and implicit meanings of utterances; (3) analyzing the role of sentences in a paragraph and their semantic load. Then, the article mentions possibilities of integrating non-linguistic elements (cultural knowledge) to decode the system of aesthetic signs in literary language found in philosophy, logics, geography, history and culturology.
