Facing the sea, for the sake of survival, the people who are brimming with the Tonkin Delta character have chosen to behave in accordance with nature so as to exploit the advantages and to restrict disadvantages. This paper is aimed at analyzing and penetrating the marine behaviour of the residents at Kim Son district, Ninh Binh province on the following aspects: (1) the isue of “dyke-building and sea enroachment” for the sake of agricultural development; (2) the issue of gradually raising the awareness of the sea to exploit its values. Both of these aspects have been demonstrated through the cause of "dyke-building and sea enroachment" and the formation of trades and trade villages as well as the organization of the social life.
