THE SITUATION OF EPITAPHS IN THUA THIEN – HUE

Abstract

Thua Thien – Hue is one of the southward lands and the palace, the capital of the Nguyen Lords Dynasties, the Tay Son brothers and Nguyen Gia Long. Therefore, it has preserved a lot of valuable cultural heritage for the nation. Of which,the system of folk epitaphs and state epitaphs – royal epitaphs with large reserves reflect all aspects of  the historical journey of the nation. This article contributes to surveying the situation of quantity, current reality of distribution and written characteristics of epitaphs in Thua Thien – Hue in terms of classification by dynasty, classification by century, classification by date; distribution by space; distribution by type of relics… aiming at solving the formal problem – the written form to have a foundation for building the documentation system of Thua Thien – Hue epitaphs which are reliable and help researchers exploit the value in each specific area of study.
