“INFANT-DIRECTED SPEECH” AND CHILD LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT

Abstract
In Vietnam, due to a lack of specific evaluation researches, there still remain several contradictory opinions on the impact of Infant - directed speech (IDS) - a non- standard form of language - on the infant’s process of language acquisition. To provide educators and childcare workers with some initial orientations for considering the role of IDS in communicating with children, this paper presents an overview of the results of IDS studies conducted outside Vietnam, and then applies them into the Vietnamese language to determine basic approaches for evaluating the significance of IDS to child language development, thereby contributing scientific data to the development of the contents and methods for teaching language to children.
