THE STATUS QUO OF STATISTICS KNOWLEDGE IN TEXTBOOKS IN THE ORIENTATION OF DEVELOPING LEARNERS’ COMPETENCE

Abstract
This paper presents our investigation into the status quo of statistics knowledge which has been included in textbooks of all levels from primary education to secondary education and higher education in order to analyze the overall decisive strategy in compiling textbooks and designing the teaching methodology for the teaching staff. With this in mind, we suggest some solutions to the problem of compiling and innovating the methods for teaching statistics knowledge in the tendency of approaching learners’ competence. Learners’ competences gained through the new teaching program, which are expected by us as well as educators in the world, include those of understanding, reasoning, statistical thinking as well as the ability to solve practical problems related to statistical data.
