CONSTRUCTING AN INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR HANDLING NATURAL DISASTERS IN VIETNAM’S CENTRAL REGION AND HIGHLANDS BASED ON WEBGIS

Abstract

Along with climate change, evolution of natural disasters in Vietnam is becoming increasingly complicated with more unusual expressions, diversity in types, higher intensity and frequency..., thereby resulting in greater damage. Natural disasters occur in all regions of the country, causing more losses of lives, property, infrastructure, and exerting adverse impact on economy, culture, society and the environment..., especially in the Central region and Central Highlands. Based on the analysis of the status quo of natural disasters, damage to the Central region and Central Highlands in recent years as well as data management, evaluation of the effects of natural disasters, the researchers have constructed an information management system (IMS) to deal with natual disasters and damage caused by natural disasters via the use of WebGIS technology. This system makes it possible to conveniently update, search and get statistical information on natural disasters and losses caused by natural disasters in the Central region and Central Highlands directly on WebGIS.
