PHILOLOGY STUDIES AND PUBLISHING IN INTERNATIONAL JOURNALS

Abstract
The article outlines literary achievements from the early 20th century to the present. Having reviewed typical authors and works, we divide the history of philology research into three periods: French studies, Russian studies, and Vietnamese studies. Focusing mainly on the Vietnamese study period, we conducted a survey of philologists under 70 years old with internationally published works in two groups - WoS/Scopus journals and Other journals - and have reached the following conclusions: 1. Domestically trained philologists have made international publications 4 times more than those who are trained abroad; 2. Due to the relatively high likelihood of publishing works internationally in quite a short time (focusing on more than 50 WoS/Scopus articles in the past 5 years), we propose the Ministry of Education and Training prescribe regulations in doctoral training, that is, supervisors and PhD students must have WoS/Scopus papers to further promote university and national rankings; and 3. The government needs to review the schemes for sending people to study abroad. In the field of philology, studying abroad hardly brings the expected effect, so instead, the Ministry of Education and Training could spend that amount of money to invest in strong philological research groups in the country. Supervisors should be responsible for training and sending their students to practice or study abroad, if necessary.
