APPLYING SERVICE LEARNING METHOD AT MUSEUM OF CHAM SCULPTURE IN DANANG

Abstract

Service Learning (SL) is an active teaching and learning method which enables learners to apply in-class knowledge to reality, and at the same time orients their learning outcomes towards the goal of meeting the demands of communities.

This article presents an experimental study applying SL to the teaching of the subject “Oriental Religions” as part of Oriental Studies at the Department of International Studies, University of Foreign Languages Studies, The University of Danang.This application is aimed at linking education with the community – an idea proposed by the Museum of Cham Sculpture in Da Nang. The results obtained are attributed to efforts in reforming teaching methods at tertiary instututions as well as connecting higher education learning with students’ experiences in local cultural communities.
