Abstract
Song Con Mua Lu by Nguyen Mong Giac is a historical novel about Tay Son - Nguyen Hue Dynasty. In the perspective of intertextuality, the historical reality displayed in this work is filled with “pre-text” history and geography. The author used three techniques to describe the chaotic period of 1765-1792 in the Vietnamese history within 2000 pages including the quotation, brief chronology and selective integration. Hence, historical reality in Song Con Mua Lu is a perfect balance between two extremes: the distorted history and the emotionless chronicles. It borrows “pre-text” history and geography to accomplish both of Nguyen Mong Giac's purposes: interpretation as well as complementation.
