Abstract
Autism is a severe developmental disorder which seriously affects the entire life of its sufferers. Because there is still no cure for this, many treatments and interventions have been developed for autistic children. This has led to many problems in the process whereby parents choose treatments for their children who suffer from autism, especially in Vietnam. Results from a study examining 110 parents of autistic children from Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, Ninh Binh and Thanh Hoa show that most parents tend to choose commonly used methods which are easy to apply and science-based. There are differences in choices of treatment methods, which depend on autism levels. However, some methods are lacking in scientific evidence, and even dangerous or counterproductive, which are presented in this article.
